Lone Mountain Ranch

Lone Mountain Ranch Professional Review and Guide

"Lone Mountain Ranch’s ski trails are the among finest tracks in the country. The combination of cold snow, impeccable grooming, and a ranch staff ratio of more than one staff person per guest proves why Lone Mountain has long set the standard for guest ranches. Lone Mountain began operating over two decades ago in the Spanish Peaks of south-central Montana. In that time, the ranch has become known for not only the 75 kilometers of trails, but also for some of the best dining in the state. Although guests generally stay at the ranch for a week, skiers can opt for day ski trips or sightseeing into Yellowstone National Park, thirty minutes away. Other winter activities include winter fly fishing, sleigh-ride dinners to the North Fork Cabin, and alpine skiing at nearby Big Sky Ski and Summer Resort.

For the fit and fast, altitude-loving skaters and kick-n-gliders, the ranch offers a variety of longer routes that climb to 8,240 feet from the ranch at 6,700 feet. The Siberia Trail takes off from the Outdoor Shop heading northwest along the Ranch Loop to North Fork, Dutch’s Detour, and Boomerang. There is good signage along the route. This tour winds in and out of meadows and trees as it climbs. Siberia offers superb views of Lone Mountain and some of the Spanish Peaks. The entire ski is a 22-kilometer round trip. Surface quality: Machine-groomed daily."
