White River Pass

White River Pass Professional Review and Guide

"This popular route across the Continental Divide connects Indian Point Meadows with the valley of the White River. Although this route does not offer views of the Chinese Wall, it does reveal stunning vistas of the Flathead Alps and Haystack Mountain.

From the shores of the West Fork of the Sun, this trail makes a crossing of this swift, knee-deep river, then climbs through the lodgepole pine forest along the north bank of Indian Creek. Crossing the high benches above the stream, the trail runs westward toward the pass. Straight ahead, the blood-colored crags of Red Butte rise above the surrounding hills. The trail climbs steadily as it passes below a talus slope punctuated by scattered groves of aspen."
