This relatively obscure and lightly traveled trail follows the roadless northwestern shore of Lake McDonald. Most of the trail is within forest that burned in a hot fire in 2003, with frequent views through the charred snags of the surrounding mountain scenery. Options: Hikers seeking a shorter trip can start at the west end and visit Rocky Point (1.6 miles roundtrip), or start from the eastern end of the trail and hike to the Lake McDonald backcountry camp (4.4 miles round-trip).
