Stillwater River

Stillwater River Professional Review and Guide

"The Stillwater is a fast, rocky mountain river that flows through timbered bottomlands and past large ranches with the spectacular Beartooth Mountains as a backdrop. A challenging whitewater river, Class IV and 5 rapids in its upper reaches, Class II and III from Cliff Swallow downstream.

Between Cliff Swallow and the confluence with the Yellowstone, float fishing on the Stillwater can be quite effective. In fact, the only way to fish much of the Stillwater is by boat, because private property lines most of this fast-moving stream, and wade fishing is a recipe for a long swim."
