Ship Islands and Fort Massachusetts, Gulf Islands National Seashore Professional Review and Guide
"Lying approximately 10 miles off the coast of Mississippi are East and West Ship Islands. Prior to 1969 they were one. Camille, the most horrendous of hurricanes to make landfall on this coast, sliced the island into two parts, and the passage between is now known as Camille Cut.
For those who are not interested in the total isolation of wilderness, but still wish to experience the barrier islands, West Ship will be idyllic. Numerous activities are available, enough to fill the day for the entire family: fishing, swimming, beach walking, shell collecting, birding, and ranger-led tours of Fort Massachusetts, a fine example of a third system of coastal forts."
