Biloxi, Mississippi Professional Review and Guide

"No fewer than eight flags have flown over this belle-of-the-ball resort town since its founding in 1699 by French explorer Iberville. Over the past three centuries, France, Britain, Spain, the Republic of Florida, Mississippi Territory, State of Mississippi, Confederate States of America, and the United States of America have all claimed this Gulf Coast jewel as their own. By the mid-nineteenth century this city’s reputation as a class-act resort town was well established. Newspaper advertisements in the 1850s touted the amenities of the area’s fine hotels: fresh seafood daily, live bands, banquets, and balls. This city of 54,000 residents, arguably the most widely known Mississippi Gulf Coast town, plays host to a lion’s share of the region’s casinos, the last home of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, an historic lighthouse, and a museum of artwork by the late George Ohr, “the Mad Potter of Biloxi.

This eTrail from the DayTrips series describes many fascinating, exciting, (and many free of charge) things to do, most within a two-hour drive of New Orleans. Each Day Trip includes, destination highlights, places to visit along the way, choice restaurants and lodging, and shopping."
