Ridge Runner Trail

Ridge Runner Trail Professional Review and Guide

"If you like challenging mountain biking in a wilderness area, you'll love the Ridge Runner Trail. Divided into two loops, the Noblett Loop to the north and the North Fork Loop to the south, this entire 38-mile trail is narrow single-track and abandoned logging roads. Long climbs are followed by fast, cooling descents. Stream crossings on the Noblett Loop make that ride bearable on hot summer days.

Because there are steep and technical sections scattered throughout the trail, the Ridge Runner is not recommended for beginners. All riders should occasionally expect to portage their bikes, especially on the more difficult Noblett Loop of the Ridge Runner, where parts of the climbs are too rugged to ride and the stream crossings can be waist-deep. This trail is located 18 miles west of West Plains."

I started this trail at the North Fork Campground and Biked North. The Northfork Loop was a good ride despite constant branches across the trail. Two Miles south of Highway 14, however, the trail disappeared and it was necessary to use a topo and compass to keep in the general area of the trail and due to a lack trail i wound up carrying or push my bike the last mile and a half. The trail was again visible 200 yards from Highway 14. North of Highway 14 the trail disappeared again and I decided not to continue on. I haven't seen the Noblet Lake Loop. This would be a good trail to hike as soon as the fall starts to kill some of the underbrush since the trail is so overgrown. There is great biking on the North Fork Loop for someone who wants a challenge. Because there is only water at the North Fork Campground and Noblet Lake you need to make sure you can carry plenty in with you. Ideal times would be in cool weather.
This is a great biking trail! There are many sections that are techincal, but it is geeat scenery and a lot of fun.
