Lake Wappapello Trail

Lake Wappapello Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Climbs and deadfall on the trail make this 15-mile loop in Lake Wappapello State Park challenging. The trail is recommended for experienced riders and beginners with positive attitudes.

Your ride crosses the road at three points, giving you an opportunity to bail out if you find the going too difficult. This trail is single-track, except for short sections where it follows abandoned double-tracks through the forest. Most of the ride is hard-packed dirt or gravel. This trail is located 25 miles northeast of Poplar Bluff."

The trail is well marked and easy to follow. More than half of the trail is rocky which makes it technically challenging, most of the rocks are loose and easy enough to navigate through,a lot of baseball sized rocks!!!! There is more than half a dozen trees across the trail but it is challenging and worth the trip.

All seasons are fine for riding this trail. The heat of summer can be quenched by dips in the lake after you are done pedaling, or during your ride at the backpacker camp 5 miles from the end of the trail. Winter riding can be wonderful. The bugs and humidity are gone, and the views are not obscured
