Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Named for a nearby town on a sweeping curve in the Missouri River, Weston Bend State Park is a place of beauty and pioneer history. American Indians once roamed the park’s hills, and Lewis and Clark passed through on their trek to the Pacific in July of 1804.

The park is located in Missouri’s Loess Hills, a range of hills reaching from just north of Kansas City all the way to Iowa. Loess, fine sediment left behind when glaciers retreated, was blown into mounds by the Midwest’s strong winds, and then eroded by streams into the landscape seen today in Weston Bend State Park—forested hills, deep ravines, and small patches of prairie grassland."
