North Part, Between the Rivers Section

North Part, Between the Rivers Section Professional Review and Guide

"This 23-mile out-and-back is a great ride through the land between two of Missouri's Wild and Scenic rivers. It can also be ridden as a loop by returning to the trailhead via forest roads and paved highways. The total distance would be 40 miles round-trip. Shorter options are available by leaving the trail at road crossings and riding those roads back to the starting point.

The entire trail is single-track, ranging in condition from hardpack to loose rocky descents and climbs. Windfall is common. This is a land of clear streams, dry, open glades, rock outcroppings, and cool deep forests. Numerous stream crossings cool you on your ride through the deep woods. The east trailhead is 4 miles west of Van Buren."

We rode approximately half of the North Part. We started at the trail head off hwy 60. Overall the trail was very well maintained. It was very visible where downed trees had been cut away to keep the trail open. The trail doesn't seem to see much bike traffic so there were a couple spots where we lost the trail but it was easily found. Great job to those that keep this trail open. Riders, go ride it! Camp at Big Springs park only 5 mins away.

Spring and fall are great times to ride this trail. Summer can be good, but winter riding is a chilly proposition with the many stream crossings on the ride.
