Alley Spring

Alley Spring Professional Review and Guide

"Alley Spring may be a big campground, but it’s a wonderful place to camp in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. It’s not merely a pretty place on the Jacks Fork River, but a historical one as well.

The Alley community once thrived in this river bottom, anchored by the Alley Mill, which still stands next to the deep, clear pool of Alley Spring. When you’re not on the river, you can hike a trail around the millpond or explore the old mill on one of the organized tours offered during the summer months."

The campground was amazing. . . except for the RV owner who thought it was appropriate to run his generator. We went on labor day weekend, and while the campground had only one empty site, the sites are spaced far enough apart and the woods dense enough that every site assures campers privacy. We hiked the McCormack Creek trail section of the Ozark Trail, beginning at the trailhaead at Greer Crossing Campground to the McCormack Lake and back. It was a perfect day hike with some beautiful vistas. However, watch out for the poison ivy! We also paid a visit to a nearby waterfall which was beautiful--even at the end of such a dry summer. Unfortunately, we had to leave Greer earlier than anticipated in order to escape the horrible sound of the generator.
