Wilderness Trail-Meramec State Park Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Located on the northern perimeter of the Ozarks, the 6,896-acre Meramec State Park is one of Missouri’s natural treasures. Flanked on the east side by the Meramec River, this area is known for rich glades, mature hardwood forests, and numerous caves. Wildlife is abundant in the park, and you may encounter a bobcat, white-tailed deer, or even a black bear as you explore this area. Some of the caves are open for exploration, and you may encounter rare species of bats there.
The Wilderness Trail is the longest trail in the park and the only one designated for backpacking. Eight backpacking campsites are provided along the trail, although it is possible to hike it in a single day if you’re looking for a more challenging day hike. If you chose to hike on the Wilderness Trail, you will not be disappointed, as the trail cuts through the most rugged and remote areas of the park."
