Cherokee Street, Saint Louis Professional Review and Guide

"Once a working-class neighborhood of tiny two-story, red-brick houses, front-porch stoops, varied storefronts, and tree-lined streets, the Cherokee-Lemp Historic District is now home to St. Louis’s most famous antique district. Here you will find everything from ordinary household utensils, to vintage radios and Victrolas, antique chandeliers and lighting, Victorian hardware, war mementos, old furniture, toys, stained glass, antique books, and tons of bric-a-brac and collectibles.

You will also find a few restaurants on Cherokee that serve sandwiches and beverages. The mansions’ restaurants offer more elegant fare. Take time to peek in the many shop windows and to appreciate these solid, modest houses. Many of the shops are located in homes that once belonged to the German immigrants who worked in the area’s breweries. This trendy area is seeing a resurgence, and many of the newly refurbished buildings reflect this area’s urban rebirth. Special attractions: Historic district, antique stores, DeMenil and Lemp mansions, quaint neighborhood."
