Busch Wildlife Biking-Hiking Trail

Busch Wildlife Biking-Hiking Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The 3.2-mile Busch Biking-Hiking Trail passes by many of the abandoned bunkers that once housed high explosives. The trail is an easy one, following a combination of old roads from the area's military days and newer double-tracks that access wildlife food plots. With smooth surfaces and gentle grades, it's a perfect trail for families looking for a ride a bit wilder than the nearby Katy Trail.

The trail's two loops pass through forests, past food plots, and along the dam of one of the 32 lakes that dot the wildlife area. From the north loop, cyclists will see waterfowl on one of the biggest lakes in the area. Managed heavily for wildlife, Busch Wildlife Area is home to songbirds, geese, ducks, owls, deer, and the occasional eagle or osprey. Spring is an especially wonderful time to be here, when the woods are filled with the mating calls of the many frogs that inhabit the ponds and streams. This trail is located 25 miles west of St. Louis."

I thoroughly enjoyed hiking the shorter trail which took about 1 1/2 hrs. It's great when dry. Secluded, yet I did see the occasional biker both times that I've gone. If you want a more longer hike, just continue forward at the trail split. Overall, it's one of the best in the woods, away from human noise type trails I've ever walked.
