South Trace Creek Section

South Trace Creek Section Professional Review and Guide

"The south portion of the Trace Creek Section of the Ozark Trail is more difficult than the northern segment. It is 13 miles long, with the road return option adding an additional 16 miles. This stretch of the Ozark Trail has several technical sections, several long climbs, and occasional areas of loose, fist-sized rocks.

It is not recommended for beginners. The trail is mostly single-track, mixed with short rides on old double-track roads. The stream crossings along this trail add to the riding experience, especially the knee-deep ford of Ottery Creek at the south end of the ride. It can make a perfect ending for a tough ride on a hot summer day. Spring wildflowers dot the streamsides during April and May, and the dogwood and redbud blooms in early April are spectacular. This trail is located 16 miles southwest of Belleview."

Although good riding days occur during any season in Missouri, spring and fall offer the best riding experiences. Summer is a distant third. With several stream fords and the knee-deep crossings of Ottery Creek, winter riding is a cold prospect.
