North Trace Creek Section

North Trace Creek Section Professional Review and Guide

"The north half of the Trace Creek Section of the Ozark Trail is a 14-mile out-and-back. It can be made into a loop by returning to the starting point via county highways and dirt roads that add another 13 miles.

This moderately difficult trail is not excessively rocky or technical, but you will need to be in good physical condition to handle the long distance and numerous climbs between the ridges and creek bottoms. With a little perseverance and a good attitude, a beginner could enjoy this ride. It is almost all single-track, with a few short sections following abandoned forest roads. Most of the trail is sandy hardpack with a few stretches of rock and loose gravel. This trail is located 20 miles southwest of Potosi."

Spring and fall are the best seasons for riding this trail. Warm days sometimes occur during winter, but stream crossings can still chill you. Summer often offers good riding, and the Missouri heat and humidity could be offset with dips in creeks along the ride, or in nearby Council Bluff Lake.
