Sam A. Baker State Park Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Sam A. Baker State Park is named for a past governor of Missouri who was born in the area and pushed for the park’s creation while he was in office in the mid-1920s. His namesake park, one of Missouri’s oldest, is located in rugged mountains dating back to Precambrian times.
When the surrounding St. Francois Mountains were formed, volcanoes dominated the landscape. Nowadays you can camp, hike, canoe, bicycle, or just hang out in the craggy forested hills where ash and lava once ruled."
