James River-Kerr to Cox

James River-Kerr to Cox Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Supposedly, the whole idea of Ozark float trips started on the James River around Galena, MO, sometime in the early twentieth century. In 1958 Table Rock Reservoir flooded 125 river miles to shortly below Galena. Luckily, there remains a lovely 4.8-mile float with excellent scenery and year-round water.

The best time for this run is when spring-fed base flow creates a fine clear-water float. There are several large bluffs on this run, which has the feel of an enlarged Meramec. Most fishermen pursue Smallmouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Paddlefish, and Goggle-eye. Other species include crappie, bluegill, and spotted bass."
