Grindstone Nature Area

Grindstone Nature Area Professional Review and Guide

"This is a great ride for beginners and experts alike. Half the trail system is hard-packed single-track in the wooded bottomlands and hills, and the remainder is dirt double-track in open fields. The 12-foot-wide Hinkson Trail crosses the bottomlands, too, and gives cyclists access to the nearby MKT trail. The challenging single-track network is in the south end of Grindstone."

This trail is a great mixture of single track and Rail Trail my wife and I started from the Old Hwy 63 trail head.. You can follow the MKT Rail Trail all the way to the Univiersty trails and on to the KTY trail for ride of any lenght trail.. While in the 'Nature area boundries.. There are single track loops of verying difficulties.. This mixture allowes for rides with riders of varing abbilities.. ( she was happy with the rail trail.. but I could shoot off on some single track ) The single tracks all loop back to the main trail.. The north trails have more hills while the south loops are generally flatter and follow the creek.. with Mutiple water crossings.. I recommend this trail for those questionable trips where other trails might not be ridable.. You can plan the trip and know you can get some time in.. The single track appears to dry quickly as the trails were in great shape and the near by Rock Bridge trails were closed. and in worst case you can still get some rinding time on the gravel/paved rail trail.
