"Many visitors who come to Hawn State Park believe it to be the loveliest park in Missouri. The 4,953-acre park is located in the eastern Ozark Mountains and is home to the 2,880-acre Whispering Pine Wild Area and Pickle Creek, a State Natural Area. The park was acquired by the state in 1955.

The area is believed to have been part of a large, sandy floodplain around 600 million years ago, which stretched as far north as Canada. Through cycles of uplift and erosion, the sandstone cliffs and bluffs are what remain. Today hikers can enjoy rich shortleaf pine forests, mixed oak and maple trees, and plenty of flowering dogwoods. The park is also popular with rock hounds and birders."
