Blue Spring Natural Area Blue Springs Trail

Blue Spring Natural Area: Blue Springs Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This easy day hike will take you to one of the most beautiful springs in the United States.

The turquoise-hued waters of the aptly named Blue Spring make for a wonderful hike destination for those lucky enough to visit this part of the Ozarks. While slightly longer than the traditional path to Blue Spring, this out-and-back trail follows the banks of the Current River and gives hikers the opportunity to enjoy the area’s diverse flora and fauna.

Blue Spring has an average daily flow of around ninety million gallons, making it the sixth-largest spring in Missouri. This impressive fl ow is responsible for the formation of underground caves and water passages as the rushing water dissolves limestone and dolomite. At 300 feet, it does hold the record for being the deepest spring in the state, and it is certainly one of the most visually stunning springs you are ever likely to see."
