Hercules Glades Wilderness West Loop

Hercules Glades Wilderness: West Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Hercules Glades Wilderness is named for the historical town of Hercules, established in 1891. Hercules was located on MO 125 at what is now the eastern border of Missouri’s second-largest wilderness area. Legend has it that an early traveler was astonished at the rugged landscape and named the town after the Greek god.

On this hike, you’ll see that rugged landscape up close and experience some of the beauty that makes Hercules Glades Wilderness a top location recommended by anyone who has hiked in Missouri. High, open forests contrast with dry, grassy rock glades punctuated with cedar groves and the beauty of Long Creek, which flows through the wilderness area."
