Glade Top Trail Ava to Longrun, MO

Glade Top Trail: Ava to Longrun, MO Professional Review and Guide

"A 38-mile drive beginning in Ava and proceeding south to a scenic ridge-top gravel road that is designated as a Forest Service Scenic Byway. The most interesting and unique parts of the White River Hills are their glades. Glades evoke thoughts of the desert Southwest with their harsh, dry conditions in the summer and wet, seepy soils and lush vegetation in the spring. These Ozark deserts have cactus plants, scorpions, tarantulas, black widow spiders, pygmy rattlesnakes, lizards, including eastern collared lizards, and roadrunners—similar to the arid lands of the Southwest. Although some of these animals are potentially dangerous, knowledge of their presence should not prevent you from exploring glades.

Special attractions: Glade Top Trail and Fall Festival, and Mark Twain National Forest; scenic views, colorful glade flowers throughout the season, wildlife, fall colors, hiking, hunting, and horseback riding. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
