Zippel Bay State Park Professional Review and Guide
"This campground, within the 3,000-acre Zippel Bay State Park, gives campers that “getting away from it all” feeling. At certain points the view across Lake of the Woods seems oceanic. Campers can enjoy the park’s 3-mile beach and lake and river access for fishing, as well as hiking and, in the winter, groomed cross- country ski and snowmobile trails.
Bird watching is excellent here. A stone jetty provides protected access to the lake. (Note: This is a popular park with relatively few sites, so reserving far in advance is strongly recommended.) Also be aware that during the summer, there’s a variety of blackflies here that can be particularly vicious. Check with local convenience stores for adequate insect protection, as the usual stuff isn’t enough. Pets are allowed."
