Faunce Campground Professional Review and Guide
"Located within Beltrami Island State Forest, this primitive campground is surrounded by miles of undeveloped forest land. It’s ideal for campers who want the full deep- nature experience. Given its remote location, expect to see plenty of wildlife—and that may include bears. Within the forest itself are hiking and horse trails, canoe access, and 138 miles of snowmobile trails. The campsites are all generously spaced with plenty of tree cover and private driveways, allowing shade and privacy. Pets are allowed.
This is a boater’s and angler’s dream region, especially the area right across the top of the state with Lake of the Woods, the Rainy River, and Rainy Lake, often referred to as the Walleye Capital of the World (to the chagrin of some of the other walleye lakes in Minnesota). Lake of the Woods, most of which is in Canada, has 65,000 miles of shoreline and 14,000 islands. It also has walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, and perch in abundance, and the same can be said for Rainy Lake."
