Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A fun place to hike and a great place to learn about nature, Tamarack Nature Center in White Bear Township is a 320-acre preserve within the larger Bald Eagle-Otter Lakes Regional Park.

Explore the trails across wetlands, prairie, and forest. If you have children with you, or are just a big kid yourself, head to Discovery Hollow Nature Play Area and Garden, a nature play area where you’re not only permitted but encouraged to get dirty."

Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"For a compact natural area surrounded by freeways, Tamarack Nature Center offers a pleasant example of North Woods diversity. Wildlife abounds, and the setting takes you to the marshy alder bogs of northern Minnesota. While there are several alternate routes within this small park, the hike described passes through the heart of the park and is probably the quietest path. Immediately behind the visitor center, you’ll see an 8-acre prairie-restoration project. Prairie grasses and wildflowers dominate this otherwise open, flat field characteristic of the prairie meadows that once dominated this region. The 5-foot-wide paved pathway here is great for either wheelchairs or strollers, and it basically makes a loop around the restoration project. You’ll also begin your hike here. When ready, head right (north) along the Bluestem Loop."
