Plum Creek County Park Campground Professional Review and Guide
"This is Laura Ingalls Wilder territory, with nearby Walnut Grove being a former home of the young Ingalls family. Here your young pioneer enthusiasts can swim in Lake Laura, wade in Plum Creek, and take a self- guided tour called “When the Prairie Whispers.” Walnut Grove has a Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum, and just outside of town are the remnants of the family’s sod dugout. Beyond the pioneer experience, fishing is good here, with walleye, bass, and northern pike. There are hiking trails too, including one around the lake.
The campsites are reasonably well spaced, and most have tree cover. (Note: If you plan on camping during Walnut Grove’s annual Wilder Pageant in July, reserve your campsite far in advance; this is a tremendously popular festival that draws people from all over the country.) Pets are allowed."
