Shingobee Recreation Area

Shingobee Recreation Area Professional Review and Guide

"A roller coaster course passing nest to the Shingobee River and a section of the North Country Trail. Shingobee Recreational Area is a multi-purpose trail system where cross-country ski trails are converted to mountain biking and hiking trails during the summer.

Shingobee is located near two other trails: the Heartland Bike Trail, a converted railroad grade about 1 mile to the northeast, and the North Country Trail (NCT). The NCT passes through the eastern half of the area heading directly east along the Shingobee River. This trail has a section to the north called the Old Pines in which the trail passes under a scattering of tall white pines."

It was awesome to hike here while the ice melted off the lake.
Shingobee is a day hike area just west of Walker, MN. The trails are mostly easy with a few steep grades. The North Country Trail travels through the recreation area. Trails are mowed during the summer, groomed during the winter.
