Hanson Lake Loop

Hanson Lake Loop Professional Review and Guide

"The Chippewa has forest roads and old logging paths all over the place, most of which are open to mountain bikes. This loop, like many of its brethren, offers gorgeous northwoods scenery in nearly perfect riding conditions. The loop is fairly long, so you’ll want to be prepared for a long stretch in the saddle.

A fine dispersed campsite is available at Diamond Lake; put your tent and pack on your back and stay the night. Great fishing can also be had at many of the adjacent lakes. Get a good map and bring a compass; all the different roads and trails coming and going can really mess with your sense of direction."

This excellent tarred trail ties in with the Paul Bunyan State Trail and has something for everyone. The trail has plenty of contour and and hills for beginner to intermediate riders, yet presents a few challenges for advanced riders also. You can start near Walker, MN and ride to Arthur's on Ten Mile Lake for a snack and return to the start in about three hours of riding at a tour pace. Peak fall colors should be visible this weekend.
