Split Rock Creek Falls— Split Rock Lighthouse State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A single, ferocious storm on Lake Superior in 1905 sent six ships into its cold depths within 12 miles of the Split Rock River. Four years later the Split Rock Light Station was constructed to warn ships away from a similar demise along the North Shore’s rocky perils.

Keepers at the station shined the Split Rock light for fifty-nine years over the western waters of the lake, and the state of Minnesota acquired the property as a historic site in 1971. Today the restored lighthouse offers tours of the light tower, signal building, and keeper’s house."
