Toohey Lake Rustic Campground Professional Review and Guide
"Located within Superior National Forest, this campground is along Toohey Lake, a good walleye lake. People also swim here, although there is no groomed swimming beach. There is no drinking water, so plan accordingly. All items, including garbage, must be packed out. Winter camping is allowed, but roads may not be plowed. Pets are allowed.
This part of the state is one of the most scenic and beloved areas in Minnesota. It’s also steeped in history. Originally settled by the Ojibwe, the northeast area was soon discovered by Europeans who came looking for trade routes and posts. Fur trading was a booming business until the mid-1800s, when the traders and trappers moved farther west to the Mississippi headwaters area."
