Silver Island Lake Rustic Campground & Backcountry Sites Professional Review and Guide
"Located within Superior National Forest, this campground is along Silver Island Lake, a good source of northern pike and walleye. An unmaintained hiking trail here goes to Windy Lake. There is no drinking water, so plan accordingly. All items, including garbage, must be packed out. Winter camping is allowed, but roads may not be plowed. Pets are allowed.
There is beauty in a number of other forms in this region. The North Shore, stretching from Duluth to Grand Portage in a landmass known as the Arrowhead, borders the vast Lake Superior on the lake’s western edge. Dramatic, rocky bluffs and cliffs are found all the way up the coast, along with numerous waterfalls (including those at Gooseberry Falls State Park and the Devil’s Kettle falls at Judge C.R. Magney State Park), historic sites (such as Split Rock Lighthouse State Park), and small, friendly towns with places to shop and eat, like Two Harbors and Grand Marais."
