St Louis River-Thomson Dam to Swinging Bridge

St. Louis River-Thomson Dam to Swinging Bridge Professional Review and Guide

"This wild ride culminates in a falls so unusual it is almost surreal. If you carry upstream from the put-in, you can catch a 6-foot drop with a sticky hole and powerful outwash, one of the trickiest spots in the whitewater slalom that is often run at this site. Rate this one Class III in low water, Class V when the hole turns into a stopper.

Whitewater slalom races are often staged at the MN 210 bridge below the Thomson Dam; local kayakers organize races which draw international competitors. Even if you don’t race, watching the competition and enjoying the hubbub of the race site is a great way to spend an afternoon."
