William O'Brien State Park

William O'Brien State Park Professional Review and Guide

"Just north of Marine-on-Saint Croix. Gently rolling prairie along the valley basin of the river. Special attractions: Wildflowers, birding, and a swimming beach. When this park was first established in 1947, it almost instantly became a favorite destination on the Saint Croix, and its popularity hasn’t diminished over the years.

No doubt part of its popularity—it can be crowded in the summer—is due to its proximity to the car camping spot nearest the Twin Cities. The park doesn’t have the geologic wonder or the wild charm of other Saint Croix parks, but it does offer a pleasant respite of rolling hills, marshes, and lowland forest."
