St Croix River-Stillwater to Prescott

St. Croix River-Stillwater to Prescott Professional Review and Guide

"A natural sandbar causes the St. Croix to form a riverine lake, more than a mile across in places. The valley is beautiful, bounded by high bluffs, but you'd feel more at home in a runabout, fishing boat, or sailboat than a canoe.

The sandbar at the river’s mouth forms a natural lake that makes this stretch of river far less attractive to canoeists than the upstream sections. Nonetheless, the river is fine for short trips and fishing. Avoid it on summer weekends, when the channel is clogged with big boats of all kinds."
