North Shore Drive Professional Review and Guide
"A 58-mile route between the shores of Lake Superior and the rocky inland hills. Lake Superior provides an ever-changing variety of moods to travelers on the North Shore Drive. Pounding storms alternate with peaceful sunsets and white-capped waves. To the west, rocky hillsides rise up to 1,500 feet above the lake and waterfalls pour over ledges in a rush to the lake. The two-lane road is paved and very busy—the busiest highway in Minnesota. Shoulder widths vary, but there are numerous pullouts for scenic viewing.
This byway is part of the well-known Lake Superior Circle Tour, crossing three states and Canada. It is a popular resort region and you may encounter joggers and bicyclers on the route. Special attractions: Lake Superior, camping, fishing, hiking, bicycling, historic sites, autumn colors, resorts, wildlife, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling."
