Banning State Park

Banning State Park Professional Review and Guide

"This 6,000-acre park is named for the former town of Banning, which was once located along the shores of the Kettle River. In its prime this town housed over five hundred stone cutters who drilled and pried sandstone from the bluffs for use in the streets of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

Located just north of Sandstone. A short hike along the cliffs overlooking the rapids of Kettle River and a tour of a remains of a century-old town and quarry.

Special attractions: Tour of old quarry, potholes, and overlook of rapids, including Hell's Gate."
