Whitewater State Park

Whitewater State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Eroded white clay along the banks of the Whitewater River causes its water to appear milky white in the spring. This white water impressed the Dakota Indians, who were the first to inhabit the area and gave the river its name. Several miles of trails loop through the popular, scenic Whitewater State Park, offering a variety of hike lengths.

The Dakota Trail takes you to the top of the bluffs for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The Valley Trail follows alongside the river, offering scenic views of the blu s from below. The Whitewater River Valley is known for its plant and animal diversity and is home to species not found in other sections of Minnesota, among them the shagbark hickory and the timber rattlesnake."
