Crow-Hassan Park Reserve

Crow-Hassan Park Reserve Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Crow-Hassan Park Reserve offers a full range of natural amenities, from expansive, rolling, prairie-like grasslands above the river valley to pockets of oaks and other hardwoods scattered along trails that wind out-and-back along the Crow River and ultimately return to the parking lot. When I hiked here, the park map was apparently out of date, as trails designated as hiking-only were also being used as horse trails. Each trail intersection, however, is well marked with a hiker or horse icon labeling the appropriate use.

Hiking the designated horse trails presents a challenge: the trail surface is soft and ground into a fine, almost siltlike texture from all the hooves. This can make walking as tedious as tromping through loose sand. Still, there’s opportunity to select several routes as you leave the prairie uplands and make your way along the tranquil Crow River, which forms the western boundary of the park."

We started in downtown Minneapolis, catching the Light Rail Trail from the Metrodome and ending at 50th Street / Minnehaha Park. From the Park, we hooked up on the Mississippi River Gorge Bike Trail and hiked 7 miles back to our car park.

Gorgeous hiking, beautiful neighborhoods along the route.

Highly recommended hike.
