Sauk River Richmond to Cold Spring Chain of Lakes

Sauk River: Richmond to Cold Spring (Chain of Lakes) Professional Review and Guide

"This isn't river paddling at all. Rather, the route follows a chain of lakes to the dam at Cold Spring, where the Sauk resumes its free-flowing life as a river. It's a good route for an afternoon or day of paddling, and you can paddle back to the put-in rather than run a shuttle. Don't approach too close to the dam at Cold Spring. Portage the dam on river right.

A chain of lakes provides a crooked path between Richmond and Cold Spring. The lakes exist at their present level and size by the existence of the dam at Cold Spring. For the most direct route, from the access on Horseshoe Lake paddle east around the peninsula into East Lake, south and then east into Koetter Lake."
