Split Rock Creek State Park Professional Review and Guide
"Split Rock Lake is the largest lake in Pipestone County; it was created in 1938 by a WPA project that built a dam on Split Rock Creek to create this recreational area. Fishing is a popular pastime, with plenty of walleye, bass, northern pike, perch, and sunfish to be caught. The swimming beach is pristine, and there are 4.5 miles of both hiking and horse trails that wander through the prairie and along the lake.
Wildlife viewers and bird-watchers will find much to enjoy here. The park is only a few miles from the historic town of Pipestone and the Pipestone National Monument, both well worth a visit. Campsites are generously spaced and wooded, allowing plenty of shade and privacy, and are surrounded by hiking trails that lead to the beach. Pets are allowed."
