Pine River-Lake Hattie to Upper Whitefish Lake

Pine River-Lake Hattie to Upper Whitefish Lake Professional Review and Guide

"The upper Pine is an intimate woodland river with several small rapids below Pine River. The Pine heads up in the bogs, woodlands, and small lakes near Backus.

It flows through several small lakes and tumbles over a couple of small dams before sliding over a third dam at the outlet of Lake Hattie, finally of a size and depth of interest to most canoeists. It winds with gentle current and emerges into Ding Pot Swamp, an expanse of high grass where the channel may be tough to follow. Soon the river returns to woodlands of aspen, birch, and conifers and then flows into Norway Lake."
