Montevideo Loop

Montevideo Loop Professional Review and Guide

"The steep wooded valleys and bluffs make this an interesting oasis amid thousands of acres of farm fields. Besides the usual crops of corn and soybeans, observant riders may notice a leafy plant that resembles a romaine type of lettuce. The plant you're seeing is the sugar beet, and Minnesota is the number one producer in the nation.

Although the Red River Valley produces most of the sugar beets in the state, farmers from Montevideo east toward Willmar grow and process a significant amount of this crop. Although this loop isn't all that unique and doesn't offer spectacular scenery, it's a pleasant jaunt for cyclists who don't want to ride far but do want a taste of quiet rural riding. Families can stay on the path to the end, turn around, and return to the start for an easy 10-mile out-and-back trip, or ride a couple of miles out-and-back for even a shorter trip."
