Savanna Portage State Park Professional Review and Guide
"Savanna Portage is one of Minnesota’s largest state parks at almost 16,000 acres. The park’s ample size really lets it shine in terms of diversity: It’s got rolling hills, bogs, hardwood stands, pine stands, four lakes, and a wide variety of wildlife and animals.
In terms of recreation, there are 27 miles of hiking trails and 10 miles of mountain biking trails, groomed snowmobile and cross- country ski trails in the winter, and fishing and swimming in the summer. The campground itself is on the shores of Lake Shumway, a good source of northern pike and crappie. The backpack sites are spread throughout the park, while the hookup sites are in 2 loops, somewhat close together, near Lake Shumway. Pets are allowed."
