Superior Hiking Trail Poplar River and Lake Agnes

Superior Hiking Trail: Poplar River and Lake Agnes Professional Review and Guide

"For us the overlooks (Glove, Poplar River, and Red Pine), the intense colors (red, fire engine red, salmon red, burnt orange, lemon yellow, and green), gigantic white pine stump, and the absolute jewel of a lake called Agnes are the extra special parts of this really nice, pleasant walk. Also, in late summer, this is mushroom hunting territory for variety and supply.

Lutsen has become a popular place winter, summer, and fall. In fact some call it the “Disney World” of the North Shore and I’m not certain if that’s a compliment or a rude remark. Winter is obvious for it’s difficult to miss the wide “freeways” cut through the woods that cover the surrounding hillsides. Summers have become much more interesting because Lutsen is no longer the sole property of golfers. They are now outnumbered by hikers, mountain bikers, and yes, even horseback riders. Fall is the color season, and both Mystery and Moose Mountains, which form part of the Lutsen recreational area, are ablaze with a wide range of reds, oranges, browns, and yellows. I have no idea why Mystery mountain is called this, but to me it is a mystery how a topographic feature with an elevation of 1700 feet can be called a mountain!"
