Eagle Mountain - Minnesota Highpoint

Eagle Mountain - Minnesota Highpoint Professional Review and Guide

"Highpoint rank by height: 37th. Note that there are at least two Eagle Mountains in Minnesota. One is located in Sawtooth Mountain Park at Lutsen, MN, and features a chairlift ride to the summit, and an Alpine Slide ride back down.

That is not the Eagle Mountain you are looking for, although it sounds like a fun place to visit while you're in the area. The actual highpoint is marked with a plaque mounted on a boulder of the igneous rock typical of Eagle Mountain. You'll read that this rock is over a billion years old! Oh, to be an eagle on this fine spring Minnesota day!"

What a beautiful day, what a wonderful hike! Local maps say the hike is 7 miles round trip from the parking area, I believe this is true. Various portions of the hike have lots of volcanic rocks to hike over. About 2/3 of the way in there is a serene lake to stop and enjoy. Nice easy grade almost all the way. The only portion that is a bit steeper was not difficult. The view from the top makes it all worth while!! The leaves were about 70% turned. It was chilly at the top, perfect Autmn day. Although the hike itself took 3 hours allow plenty of time to take it all in. I was concerned about a few groups of hikers that were 2/3 of the way going in with an hour left of daylight.
easy fun day hike trail is well maped out and you always know your on it THERE IS CAMPING on the trail about 1 mile in state maps do not show there is camping but there is at least 1 camp spot and over night passes the path is rocky but a fun walk the grade is never to much easy walk there are currently some trees down on the path that you will have to go under and over but the views are worth it the hike in is about 3 miles if you come off of 4 and about 6 miles iff you come in the other way trail does split by the lake and is not marked we took the one going up so i know that leads to the top the other one not really sure where it go's ( it is not the 6 mile other start point when you get to the top keep going and follow the man made rock piles some you will have to look for they will lead you to the high point marker the views are better before the top over all it was a fun quick hike that a friend his small dog and I did in under 3 hours and we took our time
