Kilen Woods State Park

Kilen Woods State Park Professional Review and Guide

"The Des Moines River runs along the edge of the park, and there are canoe access points to it, as well as fishing for walleye, northern pike, and catfish. There are 5 miles of hiking trails, which are notable for passing through profusions of wildflowers in the spring. One section leads to the Des Moines River Overlook, which gives spectacular views of the river.

The trails are hilly and wander through prairie and forest. Though they aren’t groomed, there are snowmobile trails in winter, and snowshoeing is available throughout the park. There’s also a sizable sledding hill. Campsites are reasonably spaced, although not heavily wooded. Pets are allowed."
