Rainy River

Rainy River Professional Review and Guide

"The Rainy is a wide and generally calm river of interest to canoeists primarily for its history and the fishing it offers.

On the Minnesota side the river is screened from the road by a fringe of aspen woods; occasional hayfields flank the river at times. On the Canadian side the highway strays farther from the river. The river passes through sections of fast water and some rapids, but nothing especially difficult. The Rainy River has a long history of human use. Undoubtedly it was a major transportation route for Indians of the region."
