Crane Lake and Sand Point Lake

Crane Lake and Sand Point Lake Professional Review and Guide

"Launch the boat outside Voyageurs National Park, at Crane Lake. Head north to Sand Point Lake, the smallest of the four large lakes in the park. It is about 7.5 miles long and 2.5 miles wide at its widest point. Explore deep bays, visit the most scenic location in the park, one of the largest campgrounds, and portage to good fishing lakes.

The outbound route could be busy with motorboat traffic, but the return route is planned to avoid traffic. Man-made structures are visible on this route. The fishing can be good, and comfortable campsites are plentiful."

i have been on this trip time and time again and everytime i enjoy it just as much as the first if not more. this is also a boat route so be careful paddling as some of the boats do not pay much attention to the paddlers. i would suggest this for a family trip, or if you would like ot mak eit longer continue up through loon river and into loon lake where you can either go right to eventually end up on the devils cascade route or go left onto lac la croix where there are hundreds of options to go from there.
