Thompson Falls Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Thompson Falls is one of Minnesota’s most secluded waterfalls, and one of the longest. The rocky trail from the road leads into dense stands of spruce, white pine, birch, balsam, and aspen. Hiking through this kind of stately forest never gets old, does it? For me, half the fun of waterfalling is hanging out with the trees.
The trail wanders past a wide, marshy section of the river and then heads toward the roar of the falls. It’s an easy hike with access to the base of the waterfall, and lots of places to explore. Thompson Falls blasts over the crest and unfurls wide like a river delta, with a gaggle of mini falls along the fringe. In times of gentler flow, it’s fun to rock-hop out into the river and feel the water curl past."
